This year, the Sunshine State award might as well change its name to “the Golden Dalvin.”

Each week, Dalvin Cook — the talented FSU running back — has been one of the major contenders for the award. Why should the final week be any different?

Cook gained 193 yards rushing on 26 carries in FSU’s big win over the University of Florida Saturday night, breaking the game open with two touchdown runs in the fourth quarter. He had 150 yards in the final period alone.

For the year, Cook has 1658 yards and 18 touchdowns. He is averaging 7.9 yards per carry. He is fifth in the nation in rushing.

FSU coach Jimbo Fisher was asked if had a message for Heisman voters. “Open your eyes,” he said.

“That guy, what else does he have to do?” Fisher said. “He deserves a seat at that table. He’s as good as any of those guys.”

Others considered for the award include FSU kicker Roberto Aguayo, who kicked two long field goals against the Gators, FSU linebacker Terrance Smith, who had nine tackles, Florida safety Keanu Neal, who had nine tackles, USF quarterback Quinton Flowers, who threw for three touchdowns and ran for two, USF running back Marlon Mack, who had his eighth 100-yard afternoon and FAU’s Jay Warren, who ran for 150 yards.
