The FOX musical comedy-drama “Glee” dabbled in politics here and there, but never broke the fourth wall as directly than when it foretold an upcoming Jeb Bush presidency in its finale on Friday.
In the show’s 121st and final episode events flash forward five years, finding Sue Sylvester (portrayed deftly by Jane Lynch across the show’s six-season run) as the vice president in a third Bush administration.
Vice President Sylvester leads a ceremony in an auditorium at the fictional McKinley High School auditorium, where she was once the principal and stodgy oppressor of New Directions glee club.
After years of resistance to the charms of her students’ musical follies, she finally gives in and admits that glee clubs are awesome in a tearful speech — which, duh, of course they are — and an ensemble featuring a cavalcade of dozens of former “Glee”-ers ensues.
Perhaps the image is a prelude to a harmonious path to the White House for Florida’s former governor — or perhaps that choir is really an ominous Greek chorus.
Either way, while “Glee” has sung its swan song, the Jeb Bush for president saga is just warming up.
