Mark Wilson, President and CEO of the Florida Chamber of Commerce, today issued the following statement regarding the destination casino publicity stunt at a Tallahassee unemployment office.
“Today’s publicity stunt is further proof that the destination casino gambling scheme is simply a bad bet for Florida.
“If casino gambling is such a good job creator, then why does Nevada have one of the highest unemployment rates in the country? Nevada’s unemployment rate is 30 percent higher than Florida’s. (Nevada 13.4% vs. Florida 10.6)
“If casino gambling is such a good job creator, then why have leading policymakers called the out-of-state and foreign casino operators claims of 100,000 jobs over the top?
“If you turn Florida into the next Las Vegas, Florida will lose jobs just like Atlantic City did when mega-casinos were introduced there.
“Let’s not lose sight that out-of-sate casinos need Florida – Florida doesn’t need casinos.
“Bottom line, what happens in Vegas should stay in Vegas.”
