With a wide-range of issues impacting its members coming up before the Florida Legislature and an increasing number of competitive legislative seats up for grabs this election cycle, the Florida Medical Association has established a new political committee and have already raised over $1 million to fund it.
Last week, the FMA opened a new political committee, Better Florida Fund Corp. The new political committee has an initial contribution of $1,250,000.
“I think the creation of this new political committee speaks for itself,” said Timothy J. Stapleton, FMA Executive Vice President. ”The doctors are energized in a way that I have never seen them in the last decade. The FMA plans to be very active this election cycle.”
Under debate in the Legislature this year are scope-of-practice issues, as well as proposals to expand the use of telemedicine, which involves physicians providing care remotely through telecommunications and Internet technology.
