As Florida’s housing market continues its growth streak, historic numbers of Florida realtors set to gather on Wednesday at the Capitol for the first-ever “Rally for Homeownership” – an event hosted by the Florida Realtors to highlight links between the housing market and economic performance.
The Rally takes place at 1pm in the Capitol Courtyard during the annual two-day event in which Florida realtors meet with lawmakers and discuss issues and legislation.
This event will be led by Florida Realtors President Dean Asher and Rep. Matt Hudson, who is also a real estate broker. The rally includes a salute to military families, as well as what is being billed as a “surprise announcement” — something that will be a powerful reminder about homeownership and the American Dream.
New home construction and purchases spur enormous economic activity as well as revenue.
Real estate — including real estate, rentals and leasing — is the number one economic generator in Florida, accounting for about 15.6 percent of Florida’s Gross Domestic Product in 2011. Once accounting for construction, this impact soars to nearly 20 percent of the state GDP.
For 2013, Florida Realtors are focused on issues surrounding property insurance, Affordable Housing Trust Funds, commercial rental tax, estoppel fees, and judicial foreclosure. Their priorities are explained in detail here: http://www.floridarealtors.org/LegislativeCenter/TopInitiatives/2013-Legislative-priorities.cfm.
