FSU loses star safety Derwin James for several weeks after surgery

in Sports/Top Headlines by

Star safety Derwin James of Florida State University is out for two to six weeks after tearing the meniscus in his left knee. James will have surgery to repair it.

James was hurt in the third quarter against Charleston Southern after twisting his leg.

The timetable means James will miss the Louisville game, the University of South Florida, Miami, and North Carolina. James would be borderline for Clemson.

James had been a star on the FSU defense so far.

“Hopefully, we’ll get that worked out and he’ll be ready to go,” coach Jimbo Fisher said. “I don’t know until they do the surgery, how it’s repaired. Could be anywhere from two weeks, to six weeks probably. Eight weeks, 10 weeks. I don’t know.”
