State Rep. Steve Crisafulli wants friends and supporters to “save the date” — Wednesday, Sept. 25 — for a fundraising reception as he seeks a third term in the Florida House.

Crisafulli is running (unopposed, so far) for the newly redrawn House District 51, which covers much of Brevard County.

Crisafulli is House Speaker-in-waiting, set to become House Majority Leader during the 2014 Florida legislative session. Speaker Will Weatherford chose Crisafulli, who will be the Speaker in 2015, as the replacement for Orlando Republican Rep. Steve Precourt.

“I am committed to facing Florida’s challenges in a conservative and responsible manner that encourages economic growth and keeps government spending and taxes under control,” Crisafulli says on his website. “I believe in a government that operates efficiently and effectively and spends your tax dollars wisely.”

The Merritt Island Republican is to be Speaker for the 2015-16 terms, chosen after the re-election loss of Lake Mary Republican Rep. Chris Dorworth. Crisafulli formerly chaired the Central Florida Legislative, Brevard and Orange County Delegations, as well as a current director and past president of the Brevard County Farm Bureau.

The event is Wednesday, Sept. 25 starting 5:30 p.m. at the home of Leon County activists Kellie and Chris Kraft, 3571 Mossy Creek Lane in Tallahassee.
