in Sports/Top Headlines by

Georgia Southern left the Godaddy Bowl looking like one of the best teams in the bowl season.

Certainly, they have the best backup quarterback.

Favian Upshaw ran for 199 yards and four touchdowns, all of them in the second half as the Eagles ran away from Bowling Green, 58-27. Georgia Southern outscored the Falcons 35-0 in the second half Wednesday night.

Bowling Green had taken a 27-23 lead just before the half, but could not stop Georgia Southern in the second half. For the game, Georgia Southern ran for 452 yards and seven touchdowns.

Georgia Southern recovered two key fumbles by Bowling Green quarterback Matt Johnson, who threw for 246 yards and three scores. The Eagles had four players gain at least 68 yards.

It was the first bowl victory – in the first bowl – for Georgia Southern.

The Eagles finished their season at 9-4. Bowling Green finished at 10-4.
