Florida House District 65 GOP hopeful Chris Sprowls continues to pull ahead in fundraising by adding another $3,600 in the month of May.

According to the state Department of Elections, Sprowls brought his contributions to $148,641, keeping cash on hand to more than $100,000. The first time GOP candidate is seeking to unseat incumbent Democrat Rep. Carl “Z” Zimmermann. House District 65 covers Tarpon Springs, Dunedin, Palm Harbor and East Lake.

Zimmerman raised only $650 last month, with an additional $4,500 of in-kind donations from the Florida Democratic Party for “political research.” This brings the incumbent’s total to $64,000 — less than half the amount raised by Chris Sprowls.

Zimmerman spent $350 in May, for a total expenditure of $1,694, for just over $62,300 cash on hand, also less than two-thirds that of his Republican opponent.
