Mike Fasano, Janet Cruz to call for investigation into Rick Scott’s “secret” email accounts

Republican former state Rep. Mike Fasano and Democrat Rep. Janet Cruz are condemning Gov. Rick Scott for using secret emails to bypass the state’s open records laws.

Both legislators will hold a press conference at 11:30 a.m. in Tampa to call for an independent inquiry into violations of Florida’s Sunshine Laws. The event will be outside the State Attorney’s Office, at 419 N. Pierce St.

Fasano, who served Pasco County in House District 36, is a Gov. Rick Scott appointee for Pasco Tax Collector. Cruz represents Hillsborough County in House District 62.

Although the administration admitted to using private email accounts for public business, a Tallahassee court found that Google and Yahoo must disclose who established the email accounts held by Scott, and current and former employees.

Scott then hired lawyers in California to force Google to keep those Gmail accounts secret. In addition, the Governor refuses to appear at a California deposition set for today, without permission of the judge overseeing the case.
