Happy birthday to the “first man of St. Petersburg” — Ed Montanari

in Uncategorized by

I always liked the term “First Man of Rome”, from the day of the Republic, to describe, in that city of equals, the best among them.

In St. Petersburg, a city of equals, one of the best among us is Ed Montanari, whose birthday is today.

To mix lessons learned from Roman history, Ed’s nobility reminds me of the last lines from Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar:

He, only, in a general honest thought
And common good to all, made one of them.
His life was gentle, and the elements
So mixed in him that Nature might stand up
And say to all the world, ‘This was a man!’
