In anticipation for strong winds and rain on Friday, public schools in Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties will be closed on Friday.

School official sin Hillsborough say that there is a need to close all schools because they’ve been directed to open some of them as shelters to help evacuees from neighboring counties. Athletic events for Friday evening are still scheduled as of now, though no final decision has been made on that front.

In Pinellas, officials say they are working closely with the Pinellas County Emergency Management and the National Weather Service to monitor weather conditions. School activities scheduled for Thursday are not cancelled unless otherwise announced by the school principal. All school-related activities for Friday, including high school football games, which have been rescheduled for Saturday. Information about the Manatee at Palm Harbor University game is to be announced.
