Howard Troxler wins major award, but wait, he’s retired in the hills somewhere

So the newspaper humble brags that:

Former Tampa Bay Times columnist Howard Troxler was honored by the American Society of News Editors on Monday, winning the 2012 Distinguished Writing Award for Commentary/Column Writing.

Troxler received the national award for a set of five columns, including ones that railed against the Florida Legislature’s leadership funds, lampooned an idea to put golf courses in state parks and parodied how online commenters would react to the Declaration of Independence.

But wait, isn’t this story missing something?

A quote from Troxler himself, of course.  And why?  Because he’s retired somewhere in the hills. His Facebook page says he’s in Saluda, North Carolina.

On his FB page, Troxler writes, ” Nobody knows more than I do how much this is the recognition of a great newspaper staff — how often my job was more or less to say, did you SEE that #$#$ our folks had in the paper?”

Always gracious, that Howard.
