We need your support for this important water quality measure. National industries have taken an unprecedented interest in trying to stop this important step toward sustainable practices in Florida and nationwide.
Last year, the St. Petersburg City Council showed the way when it passed Florida’s strongest fertilizer ordinance yet. Pinellas County Commissioners are ready to give the entire county this same protection from Red Tide and harmful algae blooms, but the outcome of this ordinance is not a certainty.
The opposition has hired a legal team and continues to push back against this important water quality measure, including trying to remove this publicly noticed item from the agenda. We must show our support in numbers. We were successful in moving this hearing to the evening so more citizens can attend, so it’s important to be there – whether or not you wish to speak! You can help just by being there: make public comment or just wear our bright neon stickers: “Stop Red Tide with a Strong Fertilizer Ordinance”. The hearing begins at 6:30pm, at 315 Court Street in Clearwater.
And don’t worry about having to grab dinner Tuesday before the hearing – we’ve got that covered for you. Come early for a free BBQ buffet across the street from the County Courthouse at Smokin Out, courtesy of Sierra Club. There will be a full dinner: BBQ chicken, ham, cole slaw, baked beans and mac n’ cheese, available from 5- 6:15 pm in a private room just for supporters of a strong fertilizer ordinance.
