Keep this in mind when you read tomorrow’s Tampa Bay Times poll of St. Pete’s mayoral race

Word is the Tampa Bay Times will release on Wednesday the results of its survey of St. Petersburg’s mayoral race.

Here’s one nugget from the Ghost of Polls Past to keep in mind when the results are published.

In 2011, the Times polled Tampa’s mayoral race using Braun Research — just as it is using that firm in this campaign. The poll surveyed voters who said they definitely planned to vote in the March 1, 2011 election.

The poll found Bob Buckhorn in third place with 14 percent.

I bring this up to remind readers a) that the Times has a particularly mixed record when it comes to its published polls (remember how it had Mitt Romney winning Florida by six points?); and b) don’t count out Rick Kriseman if he’s in third place in the Times poll.

Just ask Mayor Greco or Mayor Ferlita how reliable the Times‘ polls are.
