Lightning wins as Goalie Ben Bishop ties franchise record

in Sports/Top Headlines by

The Tampa Bay Lighting keeps winning, reaching milestones as it goes in this early hockey season.

The Lightning ran its record to 3-0 with a 6-3 victory over Boston Monday afternoon, the first time it has been 3-0 for five seasons.

For the Lightning, Steven Stamkos got the 500th point on his career when he scored on a power play.

And goaltender Ben Bishop got the 83rd win of his Lightning career, tying Nikolai Khabibulen’s team record. And if that weren’t enough, it was the Lightning’s first win after 10 straight losses in Boston.

Despite all the milestones, however, the Lightning started off slowly Monday. Two power play goals gave the Bruins a 2-0 lead, and it was 3-3 in the second period. However, Stamkos scored his goal on a one-timer, and Jonathan Drouin and Valteri Filppula scored in the third.

Brian Boyle scored two of the Lightning’s first three goals.
