For this media and political aficionado, perhaps the best aspect of the Republican National Convention being hosted in Tampa Bay is not the convention itself, but the many ancillary programs scheduled around the proceedings.
This programming kicks-off in earnest today when PBS’s Gwen Ifill brings ‘Washington Week’ to St. Petersburg, where she will produce a special telecast before the RNC.
In addition to leading Washington Week, Ifill also serves as senior correspondent for the PBS NewsHour and is author of the book The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama. For my part, I consder Ifill to be one of the finest journalists practicing her craft in today’s political arena.
According to Eric Deggans, the show, which regularly features Ifill discussing the political news of the day with a panel of leading journalists, will also include a 40-minute EXTRA/Florida edition with a Q&A involving audience members.
Washington Week producers ask all guests to arrive by 3 p.m. for the taping, which will air later that day on PBS stations nationwide.
