‘Loser of the Week Jessica Ehrlich, down in polls, releases attack ad while trying to raise funds off my blog posts

It had just been assumed that Democratic congressional candidate Jessica Ehrlich was challenging Republican incumbent Bill Young in order to set herself up for a successful run after Young retires. Believing in this assumption meant believing that Ehrlich would run a veeerrryyy nice campaign, building up her name ID, while avoiding negative tactics.

Well, you know what they say about assuming, don’t you?

Instead of running a positive campaign, Ehrlich is on a tear. Her campaign announced on Tuesday that it was releasing its first TV ad (watch the ad here) —  a negative and, what’s worse, unoriginal spot that repeats the failed line of attack about Congressman Young being old or something like that.

This, and other attacks from Ehrlich don’t seem to be working.

Results from a new survey by StPetePolls show Congressman Young with a nine-point lead over Ehrlich.

The poll was conducted during the first week in October. It has Young at 48.7 percent and Ehrlich at 39.8 percent, with 11.5 percent undecided.

Polling numbers aside, Ehrlich is starting to draw attention for the wrong reasons. On Sunday, the Tampa Bay Times‘ Adam Smith named Ehrlich the Loser of the Week in Florida politics.

“It’s hard enough trying to unseat a Pinellas County institution like Young,” Smith writes, “But it’s even harder when your former boss accuses you of padding your resume. Ehrlich denies doing anything of the kind. But in 2006 she briefly worked for former U.S. Rep. Clay Shaw of Fort Lauderdale, who last week said Ehrlich’s website inflated her responsibilities.”

All of this has left Ehrlich’s campaign so disjointed it is trying to raise money by attacking … me.

“These days (Bill Young’s) hiding behind a Republican political consultant pretending to be a journalist,” reads a solicitation email from Ehrlich’s campaign. “This fake reporter (paid by Young) has been attacking Jessica daily with false, personal attacks on his blog.”

“… Help (Ehrlich) fight Bill Young’s attack dogs right now with a donation of $5, $10 or $42 right now!”

Yeah, that’s a good investment. Donate to a sure-loser so she can “fight” attacks from a blog.
