Halloween is all about trick-or-treating for most kids. But this year families can enjoy the fun the weekend before too. Boyd Hill Nature Preserve is hosting its annual Howl-O-Fest October 23 and 24 from 6-10 p.m. each night.

The festivities include games, crafts, airbrush tattoos, a “Minions Trail” (you know, those little yellow dudes from Despicable Me,) festive trick or treat cabins, fire dance and “Viking Tale of Terror” live shows. Families can also peruse haunted houses and trick-or-treat stations located inside Boyd Hill’s rustic cabins.

Smaller children can also enjoy a bounce castle.

Fire Dance shows are at 7:30 and 8:30. The “Viking Tale of Terror” live shows are at 7:00 and 9:00.

Admission is $5.

Extra activities are also available for just $1 each including hay rides and a “spooky trail.” There will also be festival-style concessions so kids can get their funnel cake on.

The festival is not located at the main entrance of Boyd Hill. Families instead should go to the Environmental Center at 2900 31st Street South.

More information is on the city’s website. If weather affects any of the activities there is a rain date scheduled for October 25 from 6:00-9:00.
