Monday night football reunites Phillip Rivers-Jay Cutler Rivalry

in Sports/Top Headlines by

An old rivalry rekindles itself on Monday night football when Philip Rivers of the San Diego Chargers goes against the Bears’ Jay Cutler.

The two, who went at it frequently when Cutler was with the Broncos, meet in an effort by each to offset a slow start by their teams. The Chargers are 2-6 and the Bears are 2-5.

Cutler and Rivers are both accomplished quarterbacks, though neither seems to be held in particularly high regard by their fans. The personalities of both have been dissected, the fiery nature of Rivers and disassociated air of Cutler.

Rivers is on pace to break the single-season passing yardage record. He’s had five consecutive games with 300 yards and two touchdowns.

The Chargers have lost in the final seconds in three of the last four weeks.

Stars will be missing on both sides. Chargers receiver Keenan Allen has a lacerated kidney and Bears running back Matt Forte has a knee injury.
