The Credit Union National Association (CUNA) is dedicating its Volunteer Day to the new All Children’s Hospital Therapeutic Playground Site – Tuesday, June 12th from 8 AM to 2 PM. CUNA and National Journal Group are honoring the Republican National Convention by taking on the project. The effort continues a tradition of credit unions honoring cities that host the national party conventions with “leave-behind” projects that serve the local communities long after the conventions have left town.

The Southeastern Credit Union Foundation is currently building a $300,000 therapeutic playground at All Children’s Hospital in honor of the Republican National Convention. All of the money used for the project will come from credit unions in Alabama, Florida and across the country. The playground will help children at the hospital to have a place to rehabilitate outside, while also providing family members a place to play.

“Ground was broken last month on the playground space and the volunteer day is the next step in transforming the old space into a rehabilitative playground.” said Roy Adams, public information officer for All Children’s Hospital. “New, state-of-the-art, specially designed equipment will help the staff at All Children’s address the special needs that children and those recovering from traumatic injuries have.”

In addition to the financial contribution, representatives from member Credit Unions will also assist with the construction of the playground during a workday on Tuesday, June 12 from 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Volunteers from local credit unions will join staff from the 2012 Republican National Convention and National Journal in a “Volunteer Day” to work on the therapeutic playground at All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg. The volunteers will spend Tuesday planting sensory gardens, painting pavers and assembling small equipment.

The refurbished playground in St. Petersburg is in honor of the 2012 Republican National Convention.  A ribbon-cutting ceremony, which will mark the end of the construction and the opening of the playground, will take place during the week of the Republican National Convention, August 27-30 in Tampa-St. Petersburg.

The playground site is located at the corner of 6th Street S. and 9th Avenue S. in St. Petersburg.
