The end for SaintPetersBlog

Ever since I acquired the rights to the perfect domain for my efforts — FloridaPolitics.com — I knew that one day, this website would have to be put out to pasture.

Well, after more than 51,000 posts, this is the final one.

Going forward, I am devoting my full energies to the Florida Politics brand, whether it be the website, email programs like “Sunburn” and “Last Call,” or our gorgeous, award-winning INFLUENCE Magazine. Keep Reading

‘Hello, this is Morpheus, I mean Ken Welch’

in Uncategorized by

Recently, I posted an entry that had some mistaken information on it about Ken Welch conducting a poll. So he e-mailed me, I called him back and that’s when he asked me if I wanted to take the blue pill or the red pill. That voice of his! He’s just that cool, calm and collected. No wonder everyone wants him to run. – But Mayor Morpheus has his own decision to make about the blue pill and the red pill.…

Daniel reaffirms its 4 stars

in Apolitical by

Daniel, perhaps my favorite restaurant in the United States, was awarded four stars by the NYTimes Frank Bruni, a reaffirmation of its previous review. Keep in mind, there are just four restaurants in the entire city that hold this distinction, so this is a big deal in the restaurant world. “It’s for coddling…that lovers of fine dining turn to restaurants like Daniel, which safeguards a graciousness that deserves to survive any change in fashions and fortunes.” Unless you have eaten…

The Sudoku Senate race

in Statewide by

Not only is it light years away from November 2010, but the prospect of another grueling campaign in Florida, this time to replace Mel Martinez in the U.S. Senate, has yet to excite me. I’m obviously not alone in this feeling either as the leading candidates for both parties, Jeb Bush and Alex Sink, have decided not to run for the seat. – That leaves both sides of the aisle with candidates for whom the word senatorial does not immediately…

Kathleen Ford takes steps to run for Mayor

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

As of Monday, Kathleen Ford has resigned her membership in at least one local, but significant, political organization in preparation for an expected run for St. Petersburg Mayor. A source close to the Ford family stated that they expected Kathleen to announce her candidacy around the same time as Commissioner Ken Welch makes his decision, which he said would take place at the end of the month.
