Poll: 48% of voters would definitely not vote for Jeb Bush for president

A new poll is letting out some of the air out of the “Jeb Bush for President” trial balloon.

Forty-eight percent of respondents said they would definitely not vote for Bush – “a possible hangover from the presidency of his brother George W. Bush.” The percentage of people who would not vote for Bush is the second highest amount for any prospective candidate save Mitt Romney.

Marco Rubio is in better shape than Bush and pretty much the rest of the GOP field. Forty percent said they would consider voting for him, while just 32 percent said they would not.

The overall findings of the poll underscore the degree to which the contest for the GOP nomination in 2016 is as wide open as any in the modern era. The poll found that there is no obvious beneficiary to Christie’s problems within the party or Bush’s apparent problem with the wider electorate.

Many of those thinking about running have made little impression on the general public and in some cases they are not even well known among Republicans.
