After seeing him up close, Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost evidently wasn’t sufficiently impressed with Tampa Bay Rays ace Chris Archer.
At least he wasn’t impressed enough to name as the starter for the upcoming All-Star game.
Instead, Yost named Dallas Keuchel of the Houston Astros as his starter on Monday. Keuchel is 11-4 on the season with a 2.23 ERA.
Archer had a chance to debut, starting last week against Yost’s team. But Archer had one of his worst starts, losing his second straight game and giving up nine earned runs over six innings in the process.
Zach Greinke of the Los Angeles Dodgers will start for the National League. The Rays have two players on the All-Star team, Archer and reliever Brad Boxberger.
