Rays come from behind (really) to beat the Red Sox, 8-4

in Sports/Top Headlines by

Staring another loss in the eye, the Tampa Bay Rays made a rare comeback on Friday night.

The Rays scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning against the Boston Red Sox, coming back to beat the Boston Red Sox 8-4. It was only the team’s sixth victory in which they have trailed after seven innings.

Asdrubal Cabrera and J.P. Arencibia hit two-run homers to lead the Rays’ eighth-inning uprising. Logan Forsythe singled home Evan Longoria, who had doubled, to tie the score. Cabrera put the Rays ahead for good. Arencibia followed with his fifth home run in 13 games since joining the big club.

Tampa Bay jumped to a 3-1 lead in the first inning, and with Chris Archer on the mound, appeared to be in control. At one point, Archer struck out seven consecutive batters. However, the Red Sox rallied to take a 4-3 lead in the sixth. With Wade Miley pitching for Boston, the Red Sox seemed about to move within one game of the Rays in the AL East.

Cabrera had two hits for the Rays. So did Steven Souza Jr., who returned to the lineup, and Kevin Kiermaier.

Tonight, the Rays’ Matt Moore pitches against Boston’s Porcello.
