The Tampa Bay Rays took a decisive spring training victory over their division rival, the New York Yankees, Thursday night in Tampa.
Tampa Bay moved to 10-9 in their spring with a 6-2 victory. Evan Longoria hit a home run, Steve Pierce had three hits and Logan Morrison drove in two runs.
For the Rays, Matt Andriese pitched three innings and allowed only one run to lead the win. Enny Romero had three strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings.
Tampa Bay had six players in their lineup hitting .300 or better.
The Rays will start Drew Smyly in Friday’s game at 1:06 p.m. against the Twins at Charlotte Sports Park. Smyly has 10 strikeouts in 10 innings this spring.
