The undefeated pitcher didn’t make it out of the fifth. The winless pitcher threw a four-hitter.
And, for the Tampa Bay Rays, the losing goes on.
The Rays dropped a 5-0 game to the Baltimore Orioles in the first game of a day-night doubleheader Saturday afternoon, stretching their losing streak to nine straight games with no sign of relief. If the Rays had a shot at finally beating a first place team, it figured to be Saturday. Rays’ starting pitcher Matt Andriese was 6-0; O’s starting pitcher Kevin Gausman was 0-5.
But the Rays are in one of their hitting funks. During the 8-game losing streak, the Rays have been outscored 52-18. The Rays have batted .186 (55-for-292) during the slide.
The Rays turn to Jake Odorizzi to try to end the streak Saturday night.
