Rays waste pitching gem by Alex Colome in loss to Indians

in Sports/Top Headlines by

There are days when a pitcher deserves better luck.

Alex Colome knows all about that.

Colome threw a perfect game into the sixth inning, but the Tampa Bay Rays lost a 1-0 decision to the Cleveland Indians Sunday afternoon in Cleveland.

Colome gave up only an infield single to Michael Bourn in his seven innings. Kevin Jepson took the loss for Tampa Bay, giving up a bases-loaded sacrifice fly to David Murphy. Roberto Perez scored the winning run, sliding in just ahead of a strong throw by Kevin Kiermaier.

Cody Anderson pitched a strong game for Cleveland after being called up.

The Rays return home tonight to face Toronto with Mike Andriese pitching.
