The Tampa Bay Rays continue to embrace Erasmo Ramirez, their find of the off-season.
Ramirez ran his record to 10-4 in an easy 9-2 victory over the first-place Houston Astros Monday night. Ramirez has made 15 starts since May 14 and and has gone 10-3, third in the American League for victories over that span. He is 10-0 when receiving two runs or more of run support.
The Rays are now 5-0 on the season when facing their former pitchers. The Rays have two wins over Scott Kazmir and one each against David Price, Jesse Chavez and Mike Montgomery. Not only that, but the Rays are now 6-1 against pitchers who were caught by manager Kevin Cash as a player.
Tampa Bay started the game with four runs in the first inning, three on a home run by Tim Beckham with an 0-2 count, and three in the ninth. Evan Longoria and Daniel Nava each had three hits and Asdrubal Cabrera had two. The Rays had 15 hits in all, their 14th game of the last 18 where they have had 10 or more hits. The Rays had only 25 of those games in their first 100 games.
Jake Odorizzi will start for the Rays tonight against the Astros’ Scott Feldman.
