Reason #2 why St. Petersburg should have a later ‘last call’

During a previous effort to extend “last call” throughout all of Pinellas County (not just St. Petersburg) SMT Consultants reviewed all of the data on this matter and concluded: Based on the data accumulated in this report, it is quite apparent that extending the service house in Pinellas County from 2 a.m. until 3 a.,. would not cause any harm to the residents of Pinellas County.  In fact, the data shows that extending the service hours may have some benefits to the populous.  It is clear that Pinellas county drivers are leaving the county and migrating to Tampa and Hillsborough County for that last drink.  Accident records prove that the causeways and bridges are the most dangerous highways in both Counties and show the most significant concentration of alcohol related injuries and fatalities over the last 5 years.  Keeping the patrons of Pinellas County in the county for an additional hour will reduce the traffic flow to Hillsborough County.  Binge drinking will be reduced and people leaving establishments would leave at different times therefore saving lives.
