Rehwinkel Vasilinda files state pay increase bill

State employees would see a 7 percent raise on July 1 under legislation filed by Representative Michelle Rehwinkel Vasilinda, D-Tallahassee, though the measure is likely seen as a long shot.

State workers haven’t had an across-the-board pay raise in seven years, and while general revenue is expected to be up by a few percentage points this year, state coffers will be far from flush with extra cash. Gov. Rick Scott is proposing a merit pay raise for some state workers rather than an across the board increase. The measure (HB 289), filed Friday, hasn’t yet been assigned to a committee.
