Two candidates. Rick Perry and Jon Huntsman. The former is said to be “all in” for the Republican Party of Florida’s Presidency 5 straw poll; the latter is reported to be moving resources from Florida to New Hampshire.
“Leading Republican presidential contenders Mitt Romney and Michele Bachmann say they won’t risk their top tier perception by participating in the Florida GOP’s Presidency 5 straw poll, even though they will spend plenty of time courting Florida activists in the two days leading up to the Sept. 24 mock election in Orlando. … It’s still not clear the extent of Perry’s campaigning for the straw poll election – there’s talk of breakfast remarks before he flies out of state – but his commitment still is greater than the other major contenders except Ron Paul.”
Jonathan Martin on Huntsman:
“Also coming on board to work as a senior communications adviser is Ben Porritt, a press hand who worked for John McCain and George W. Bush. … This source said Huntsman is ‘running on fumes’ and that the candidate had to put $500,000 of his money into the campaign recently to help make payroll. … He’s also moving some staffers from his Orlando campaign operation up to New Hampshire.”
Bottom line: will it matter if Rick Perry wins a straw poll Bachmann, Huntsman and Romney don’t compete in?
