Although his next election is nearly four years away, state Rep. Ritch Workman raised more than $73,000 in his 2018 Senate race, according to filing from the state Division of Elections.
Most of the money Melbourne Republican has raised to date came between Sept. 1 and Oct. 31, when he took in $69,850.
Workman, who will be term-limited out of the House in 2016, has a campaign account for Brevard County’s Senate District 16, currently held by Republican Sen. Thad Altman who will be term-limited in 2018.
In the 2015 legislative session, Workman will chair the House Rules and Calendar Committee.
Others who have opened 2018 Senate campaign accounts: Republicans Sens. Aaron Bean of Fernandina Beach; Dorothy Hukill of Port Orange; and Rep. Doug Holder of Venice.
Holder, who was term-limited out of House this year, seeks to run in Senate District 28 for Sarasota and Charlotte Counties.
