A remembrance of longtime Republican icon Tom Slade will be held at the Florida Capitol on Monday, Nov. 17. Slade passed away of heart failure Oct. 20 at the age of 78.
Not only did Slade serve as a state Senator, Representative and lobbyist, but also was a tough-talking chair of the Republican Party of Florida for three consecutive terms from 1993-1999.
Slade was a skilled political tactician and known as one of the architects of the modern Florida GOP.
The service is 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. in the Historic Capitol’s Senate Chambers, 400 South Monroe Street in Tallahassee, where Slade served in the 1960s. Friends and colleagues are invited to attend. After the memorial service, friends will gather at Clyde’s & Costello’s, 210 South Adams Street, to raise a glass in his honor.
In lieu of flowers, family requests donations in his memory to the Wounded Warrior Project at www.WoundedWarriorProject.org and the ASPCA at www.ASPCA.org.
