Tampa will host the 2012 Republican National Convention during the week of August 27, with Ken Jones serving as the President and CEO. In that role he is responsible for the organization and day-to-day executive management in connection with the Convention. The Host Committee has multiple functions including fund-raising coordination of logistics, security, venue leasing, hiring staff and numerous other functions While Ken will emphasize that this is an event that goes beyond party affiliation; his personal background clearly identifies him as a party insider. While working as the Chief Legal Counsel and Deputy Chief of Staff to former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott in 2005, Ken also served as the general counsel and senior advisor to the Inauguration of George W. Bush. Prior to his work in the Senate, Ken counted as clients President Bush, the Bush-Cheney Presidential Campaigns, and the Republican National Committee while working with the Washington D.C. law firm Patton Boggs. Given his track record in staging significant events (or parties) like inaugurations and conventions Tigers might wonder if he is a triple threat as a lawyer, political insider and “party/ Party” guy. Come hear what the economic impact will be to the region and Tigers will want to ask Ken about the costs associated with security in the area.
