Surrounded by an enthusiastic crowd of supporters and contributors, Scott Strepina, candidate for Tampa City Council District 2, marked the official launch of his campaign with a celebratory gathering on Tuesday, July 29 at the Historic Hyde Park home of Datz Deli owners Roger and Suzanne Perry.
The kick-off event was filled to capacity as Deborah Cox-Roush welcomed the candidate.
“I am excited to be here to introduce Scott Strepina,” said Cox-Roush. “I have been impressed with him from the beginning. He is a hard-working, engaged member of the Tampa community, and the first step in a much-needed new wave of leadership on the Tampa City Council.”
Strepina used the event as an opportunity to promote a pro-business, “common sense” approach to leadership.
“Now, more than ever, we must increase our focus on economic development and job creation,” said Strepina. “I firmly believe that by encouraging growth and innovation within our small business community, we will achieve significant improvements in our quality of life. But first, we must make it easier for businesses to do business in Tampa.”
Strepina is currently the only candidate on the ballot for the citywide district. Incumbent Mary Mulhern has offered a conditional statement of intent to run for re-election, if she does not identify a higher office to pursue.
