Shawn Harrison pulls ahead in March for HD 63, but Mark Danish leads in cash on hand

Former State Rep. Shawn Harrison added nearly $6,000 in March as he works to regain his House District 63 seat.

The Tampa Republican posted $5,950 in donations last month for a total of $77,885.

Harrison faces Democrat incumbent Rep. Mark Danish for the seat covering parts of north Hillsborough County. First elected to the House in 2010, Harrison served only one term, losing to Danish in 2012.

Danish fell behind in fundraising for the truncated March reporting period, raising $5,750 last month for a total of $66,757. However, the incumbent has an advantage in cash on hand, with $52,045 versus $37,525 in Harrison’s war chest.

By Florida law, incumbents cannot fundraise during the legislative session, which in 2014 began on March 4.

With $40,360 in expenditures to date, Harrison has spent nearly three times that of Danish, who only spent $14,712 so far.
