Somehow, Lightning wins a wild 6-5 game against Winnipeg

It was a laugher. It was a blown opportunity. It was a comeback. It was a special teams collapse. It was a shootout.

In the end, it was wild.

The Tampa Bay Lightning ended up with one more good moment than bad one Thursday night, winning a 6-5 game over Winnipeg  in a shootout. Captain Steven Stamkos scored the winner.

There were plenty of good things with the win. The Bolts scored three goals in 241 seconds, and they led 4-1 in the third period. After falling behind, Nikita Kucherov scored the tying goal.

There were plenty of bad things, too. The Lightning gave up 41 shots, and it gave up four straight goals in the third period, including two power play goals and one that was short-handed. One went off Ondrej Palat’s skate.

“I don’t know if it was good, but we found a way to win,” Stamkos said. “We’ll take the win, but I don’t think we can walk out of here totally happy with our game.”

In the end, however, the Lightning scored twice in the shootout, once on a shot by Ryan Callahan and then on Stamkos’ winner on the fifth round of the shootout.

Also scoring for Tampa Bay were Victor Hedman, Stamkos, Alex Killorn, Jonathan Marchessault and two by Kucherov.
