St. Cloud attorney Pete Placencia announced today that he will challenge first-term GOP incumbent State Rep. Mike La Rosa in House District 42.
Placencia will be running as a Democrat in a competitive seat where registered Democrats outnumber Republicans by more than 5,200 voters. The district covers parts of both Osceola and Polk Counties in Central Florida. He will face Chad Carnell in the August primary.
“My vision is to bring parabolic trough thermal energy to both Osceola and Polk Counties,” Placentia said in a statement released Wednesday. “Not only will these plants generate new jobs during construction and ongoing maintenance, I am optimistic that there will be a cost savings to energy customers that will put more dollars into every household in the District.”
A St. Cloud resident since 2002, Placencia operates a law practice in Kissimmee two blocks from the Osceola County Courthouse. He served as a volunteer on the St. Cloud Historic Preservation Board, as well as chair of the St. Cloud Zoning Board of Adjustments.
“I am running to stand for working families by creating jobs in our community,” Placencia said, “leveling the playing field for policyholders against big insurance companies, and strengthening our neighborhood schools.”
