St. Pete water main break causes partial building collapse

Police in St. Petersburg say a water main leak likely caused the partial collapse of a building and a large hole in an abutting street.

The building in downtown St. Petersburg was unoccupied when the wall collapsed Thursday morning. No injuries were reported.

Police say the city’s water department is working to fix the leak.

Officials say the leak at Moscato’s Underground piano bar was reported to the city on Wednesday night, but couldn’t be stopped. The building started to crumble four hours later.

Officials say the hole in the street is about 25 feet deep and 50 feet wide.

Police have closed off a section of Central Avenue as crews work to stop the leak.
