Steven Souza Jr. to disabled list; John Jaso returns to Rays

in Sports/Top Headlines by

As injury riddled as the Tampa Bay Rays have been this season, even breaking even feels like a victory.

The Rays have lost outfielder Steven Souza Jr. for the short term with lacerations to his pinky finger. Souza was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, two days after being hit on the hand.

However, the Rays did get back designated hitter John Jaso, who has been on the DL since opening day with a deep bruise to his left wrist. Jaso didn’t hit particularly well in his rehab assignment, but he’s a career .259 hitter.

Souza was hitting only .210, but he had 15 home runs.
