Some political observers are wondering is Gov. Charlie Crist may give up his bid to win the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate and run as an Independent instead.
But USF Political Scientist Dr. Susan MacManus, doesn’t expect Crist to leave the GOP.
“I don’t see Charlie Crist going independent, he’s a Republican through and through,” she said.
MacManus says the country is focusing on this Senate race, because Florida remains a bellwether state.
“Young versus old, moderate versus conservative, it’s got it all and it reflects the sort of dissension within the Republican party about what direction to go in. Of course he has to be a bit concerned that it’s going more towards the conservatives and less toward the moderates,” she said.
MacManus says Crist needs to have a successful legislative session to turn his campaign around.
