Florida’s request for $2 billion in supplemental Medicaid funding is too high, Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell told Rick Scott at a meeting, according to a release issued by the federal government.
The release also says that a preliminary view of the proposed amendment “falls short” of the principles the government has concerns with.
The release, dubbed a “readout,” also points out that Burwell told Scott that whether a state receives federal funding for an uncompensated care pool is not dependent on whether it expands Medicaid.
Scott went to Washington in hopes of getting Burwell to approve a preliminary figure of expected Low Income Pool dollars. But Burwell told Scott that the public comment process needed to be completed.
She advised, though, that HHS “is continuing to engage” with Florida on the LIP proposal.
