Joe Henderson: No matter what comes out, Donald Trump’s true believers don’t seem to care

in 2017/Top Headlines by

I could waste words here on PresidentĀ Donald Trump’s hallucinations about the truth, but why bother. Y’all know that story as well as I do. The president either is delusional or cynical about what the people will believe or maybe both. There is a bigger story, though, one that reduces all the drama about nonexistent wiretaps and possibly existing collusion with Russia to subplots. It is simply this: His supporters don’t care. A large, energetic crowd of believers showed up Monday…

Gus Bilirakis all in on GOP health care proposal

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Gus BilirakisĀ is sticking to his guns. After holding three town hall meetings earlier this year, the Tarpon Springs Republican congressman heard strong (and on occasion, impassioned) comments by some constituents urging him not support a repeal and replacement of the Affordable Care Act. But Bilirakis stayed consistently clear that he supported killing Obamacare. So, it should not come as a surprise to anyone that he intends to support the House Republican health care plan when it comes up for a…

Gov. Rick Scott hasn’t been shy about sharing his feelings on the Affordable Care Act. Like any good Republican, he hates it. He wants it to go away. Now that Republicans have a legitimate proposal on the table to replace Obamacare, though, Scott has gone into stealth mode on the subject. In an Associated Press story, the governor did the Rick Scott Shuffle when asked for his reaction to the plan now being debated intensely in Washington. Scott said he…

Florida’s Congressional Dems blast GOP health care plan after budget report

in 2017/Top Headlines by

As expected, the scoring of the Republican health care plan in Congress affirmed many of Democrats’ biggest warnings. And, as expected, many of Florida’s delegation wasted no time Monday attacking the “American Health Care Act” as “wrong,” “inhumane,” “alarming,” and “ruthless and cruel.” No word yet from any of Florida’s 17 Republican members of Congress on how they feel about the Congressional Budget Office legislative analysis of the bill Republicans introduced last week. Its aim is to replace “Obamacare,” the…

Darren Soto: Current GOP health care bill won’t pass

in 2017/Top Headlines by

The current bill to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act will never pass Congress in its current form, freshman U.S. Rep. Darren Soto, an Orlando Democrat, told members of the Polk County Tiger Bay Club during a Monday lunch in Bartow. ā€œI believe ā€˜Trumpcare’ will be difficult in the House now that the joy of victory has subsided. And things in the Senate can come unraveled,ā€ said the new congressman from Florida’s 9th Congressional District, which includes Osceola County…
