Pinellas ‘navigators’ to assist residents during healthcare open enrollment period

Pinellas County will be offering some extra guidance to its residents during the 2016 healthcare open enrollment period. “Navigators” — think healthcare guidance counselors — will be stationed across the county, on a day-to-day basis, for the duration of the open enrollment period, which begins on Nov. 1, and runs through Jan. 31, 2016. Walmart to give free health screenings and immunizations this Saturday

Calling it “America’s Biggest Health Fair,” Walmart will kick off a series of free healthcare-related services this Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. at more than 4,400 stores nationwide. Stores with pharmacies will offer free blood glucose, blood pressure and vision screenings. They will also offer free immunizations from licensed pharmacists. Rate of uninsured drops to 16.6 percent in Florida

The rate of Floridians without health insurance dropped to 16.6 percent last year. Figures released Wednesday by the U.S. Census Bureau shows that represents a drop of 3.4 percentage points from a rate of 20 percent in 2013. Despite the drop, Florida still had the third highest rate of residents without health insurance. Only Texas and Alaska had higher rates. The national rate was 10.4 percent.
