As was reported on Monday, the Florida Commission on Ethics cleared Hillsborough Public Transportation Commission Chairman Victor Crist late last month of any conflict of interest charges last month, citing a “lack of legal sufficiency.” The claim of an ethics violation was made by Louis Minardi, the owner of Yellow Cab Company of Tampa. in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

They’d reached closing statements at a recent forum for Hillsborough County Commission District 6 Democratic hopefuls in Bealsville, near Plant City, and Pat Kemp, the Tampa lawyer and serial candidate, was feeling magnanimous. The town center was a thing of beauty, she said. The town hall, expanded library, a roundabout with a flag at its center, the lovely boulevards linking them all. Just marvelous, she said. People of Plant City must be proud. As Kemp finished and took her seat,…

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

In the race to succeed Dana Young in the Hillsborough County District 6 race, two local Republicans are battling it out for the November general election: Rebecca Smith and Jackie Toledo. It appears that much, if not most of the Republican establishment, however, is firmly behind Smith to win the Aug. 30 primary and face Democrat David Singer in November. On Thursday, the Smith campaign announced that Hillsborough County Commissioner Al Higginbotham is backing the Tampa businesswoman in the contest. “I’ve come to know Rebecca Smith over…
