Meet Anna Alexopoulos, the new face of Charlie Crist in South Florida

in Statewide by

Her name is Anna Alexopoulos, and today was her first day as field director for Charlie Crist’s Senate campaign in Broward and Palm Beach counties. She hit the ground running by making sure Crist had a good turnout (about 300 people) at tonight’s Broward Republican Party meeting. Alexopoulos is 24 years old, lives in Plantation and has served as president of the Broward Young Republicans for nearly two years. Until this week, she was the senior executive assistant/office manager for…

Governor Jeff Kottkamp was the first to come under fire for what some deemed as “excessive” travel on state aircraft on the taxpayers dime. I was just stalking Paula Dockery on Facebook and was intrigued by her current status: “Met all day with political expert. Another step in the due diligence.” Is there any doubt about her running? Bill McCollum can’t beat Alex Sink, but maybe Dockery could?

Wayne Garcia: Charlie Crist from green to ‘gutless’?

in Statewide by

A must-read from Creative Loafing’s Wayne Garcia: It was zenith of his 2007 pledge to turn Florida green, lower emissions and grow a biofuel industry. Last year, he laid out a $200 million investment in his green vision. But today, as Crist is all but a lame duck governor running for the U.S. Senate, very few of those hopes and promises have come true. Blame the knuckle-draggers in the Legislature. Blame the recession. Or, if you are like some environmentalists…

Southern Political Report: Charlie Crist-Marco Rubio battle marks the GOP’s ideological divide

in Statewide by

Rush Limbaugh and Gen. Colin Powell campaign against each other on the airwaves. Yet there will be no settling the score between them at the ballot box. To decide their squabble about the definition and direction of the Republican Party, proxies will stand in next year in Florida’s GOP primary for U.S. Senate. Moderate Gov. Charlie Crist is the prohibitive favorite, of course. He has long since made the watershed rite of passage necessary to make his name known to…
