Rose Ferlita now says she DOES endorse Jackie Toledo for Tampa City Council

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Rose Ferlita has kept a very low profile since losing her bid for Tampa mayor four years ago, so it got heavy play in political circles last week when Ferlita told the Tampa Tribune’s Chris O’Donnell that she wasn’t backing fellow Tampa Republican Jackie Toledo in the District 6 City Council race because of her association with campaign consultant Anthony Pedicini. But apparently that’s no longer the case, as Ferlita has now endorsed Toledo in the March 24 runoff against…

Jackie Toledo doesn’t back down from mailer that Guido Maniscalco says attacks his grandmother

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

The Guido Maniscalco campaign team is lashing out at Jackie Toledo and Anthony Pedicini, her campaign consultant, after a mailer blasting Maniscalco hit homeowners in the Tampa District 6 area on Thursday, just days before early voting begins in their runoff election scheduled for March 24. But Toledo is not backing down. The mailer bashes Maniscalco, claiming his business record is a “mess,” with allegations that the company that he is associated with, Guido Morana Vintage Timepieces, owes nearly $40,000 in back taxes, between…

Council members mostly OK with Bob Buckhorn decision to hire within TPD for new chief

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Of all the relationships that a big-city mayor has, the one with their police chief is considered paramount. Last summer in St. Petersburg, Rick Kriseman alienated some City Council members who felt they deserved more of an opportunity to weigh in on a replacement for outgoing chief Chuck Harmon. The mayor then surprised everyone by chucking his four finalists and picking Clearwater Police Chief Tony Holloway to lead the SPPD. Now it’s Bob Buckhorn’s turn. Although the recently re-elected mayor…

Mitch Perry Report for 3.12.15 — Charlie Crist for Senate?

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

The other day Mason-Dixon did a poll on the 2016 Florida race, and it’s content was somewhat pedestrian. Pedestrian in the respect that it only put four names into the ring: Marco Rubio and Jeff Atwater for the Republicans; Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Patrick Murphy for the Democrats. With over a year and a half until the actual contest, couldn’t Mason-Dixon throw a few more names in the mix, since as of today, none of these people have actually committed to running for…

Bob Buckhorn PAC builds war chest

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

One Florida Political Action Committee, the political committee formed by friends of Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn, has now raised over $60,000 since being created in December. The PAC raised $43,875.15 in February, by far its most prolific month in its short infancy. Nearly a quarter of that amount, or $10,000, came via a contribution from LSI Management Co., also known as Laser Spine Institute on Rocky Point. $5,000 came from Alliant Partners, a Tampa architecture firm, and there were two $2,500 contributions: one…

Tampa PD expands business watch program into downtown

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

A Tampa Downtown Partnership breakfast on homelessness last October was the spark. The conversation that began there ultimately led to the creation of a program between the Tampa Police Department and the downtown business establishment announced today, designed to make the area a safer place to live, work and play. That meeting at the University Club last fall was a relatively sanguine affair until its conclusion, when a few business owners complained that there were still problems with their employees being harassed by some…

Guido Maniscalco & Jackie Toledo fight for momentum in Tampa City Council race

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Guido Maniscalco was on the campaign trail Sunday morning — just not that early. The change in Daylight Saving Time meant that the 30-year-old Democrat made sure he didn’t alienate potential voters by knocking on doors before noon. He was out and about, though, with more volunteers than ever to help him. He’s been given a second life but has a little more than two weeks to close his 17-percentage point gap behind Jackie Toledo. His 38-year-old opponent came in first…
