Florida Chamber releases 2010 legislative ratings

in Statewide by

Just a couple of insights after reviewing the Florida Chamber’s ratings: ***State Sen. Dan Gelber had the second lowest rating of his colleagues, so he must be doing something right. ***The Chamber’s ratings gave extra weight to how a legislator voted on SB6. The Florida Chamber of Commerce released the 2010 Legislative Report Card, which grades legislators based on their support of pro-job and pro-business issues during the legislative session. These highly anticipated grades are calculated annually based on legislators’ voting records on…

Since she can’t pick Darryl Rouson, shouldn’t Alex Sink’s choice for LG be the ‘non-winner’ of Dave Aronberg vs. Dan Gelber?

in Peter/Statewide by

Watching (or is it witnessing?) Democratic state Rep. Dan Gelber suggests Florida House is using ultrasound bill as trade-bait

in Statewide by

In a statement released Thursday, state Sen. Dan Gelber suggested that the Florida House’s failure to send the controversial ultrasound bill (HB 1143) is an attempt to play political games with a very important issue. “The Florida House should quit playing games and send the Ultrasound Bill to Governor Crist for his prompt review and hopeful veto. Ironically, the bill was rushed through the Legislature without warning or serious thought, and now it’s one of the last bills the House…

Dan Gelber’s op-ed: Riding oil spill momentum

in Statewide by

The Orlando Sentinel’s Thursday editorial, “Fix regs, nix session,” dismissed the call for a special session to address offshore drilling as a “selfish political ploy.” Believe me, in the 10 years I’ve served as a state lawmaker, I’ve seen plenty of selfish political ploys. Placing a constitutional amendment on the ballot to ban offshore drilling is not one of them, and here’s why: It addresses a real likelihood that one day the Florida Legislature will submit to the very powerful oil…
