Newly drawn congressional ‘base map’ has all of St. Petersburg in CD 13 seat

in 2017/Top Headlines by

Five days before the Florida Legislature returns to Tallahassee to work on redrawing eight congressional district lines, two committees responsible for completing what is known as a “base map” have released it to the public. It shows that those committees have followed the directions of the Florida Supreme Court, which said in its ruling that eight congressional districts were drawn in violation of the state constitution. The court ruled that Kathy Castor’s District 14 seat in Hillsborough County should not be expanded across the bay…

Todd Wilcox says Republican voters in Florida (will) like what he has to offer

in 2017/Top Headlines by

Orlando-based entrepreneur Todd Wilcox says that it was around April of last year that he first thought about the possibilities of running for U.S. Senate, a considerable feat to undertake for a lifelong nonpolitician in the nation’s third-largest state. He didn’t go into exploratory mode until this past April, though, after  Marco Rubio made it official that he wouldn’t be running for re-election to his seat, and the presumptive GOP front-runner to replace him, Jeff Atwater, stunned the Florida political world…

Dana Young for Florida Senate?

in Statewide/Top Headlines by

If things break as the Florida Supreme Court has foreshadowed, House Majority Leader Dana Young might be headed to the state Senate. According to a new email from campaign manager Nick Hansen, the Washington D.C. special interest establishment wasted no time pouncing on the Indian Shores Republican, who is seeking Marco Rubio’s open Senate seat. “Organizations that are part of the selfish politics in Washington put loyalty to ideological scorecards over allegiance to our nation,” Hansen writes. Jolly is “running…
